Leadership and Innovation at Apple, Inc. Essay - 595 Words

This case goes over how Apple experienced a rough downturn from 1985-1997, but managed to innovate their way out of that challenging time to an incredible turnaround and rise from 1997-2009 (Pearce II Robinson, 2011). This case concludes by mentioning the challenges that Apple faces in the future with other companies imitating their successful trends (Pearce II Robinson). I will discuss two strategic factors that I believe Apple should consider as they establish their long-term strategy for growth. Also, I will mention what two objectives I believe Apple should include in the learning and growth perspective of their balance scorecard. The first strategic factor that I think Apple should consider is product leadership/ development.†¦show more content†¦The iPhone is an example of Apple tailoring and shaping two current products; they combined the iPod and Mac computer into a phone, which redefined the mobile phone industry (Pearce II Robinson). As Apple plans for the f uture, it is critical that they continue to keep a good relationship with new and current customers by creating new products that will satisfy them, so they dont lose these customers to their competitors. Along with the customer intimacy factor, I think Apple should be more open to partnerships that will contribute to future success (Pearce II Robinson). For instance, partnerships like the one when Steve Jobs took office as CEO, which consisted of Microsoft investing $150 billion into Apple to produce Microsoft office for their Mac computers (Pearce II Robinson). Strategic alliances/ partnerships or joint ventures can help Apple regain some of the market share they lost/ will lose in the future from competitors imitating their products. Assessment on Hobbes Ideas on Monarchy Thomas Hobbes was a proponent of the monarchal system and in this paper I will prove that Hobbes was right in supporting the monarchal system of government, I will also show the opposing school of thought, and finally, I will give you my opinion on the monarchal system. Thomas Hobbes lived from 1588-1679 and throughout most of his life there was violence going on all around him. The biggest case was the English Civil War. This war lasted about seven years and it overthrew the monarchy, which England had established many years before. After this revolution, shaky governments ruled the land for several years. But then, the English went back to the monarchal system. The TT believes that the world would have become utopia throughout the course of history, but when he reaches the far future he can see that his vision is far from the truth. He can see that Darwins theory of evolution is almost the complete opposite of what has happened, and the two factions, into which the human race has been divided, are both of minimal intelligence. The two species in the book are Eloi and Morlock. The Eloi live above ground, eat fruit, make love and generally live in the lap of luxury. The Morlocks on the other hand, live underground and work the machines that keep the Eloi fed and clothed. This comparison of Eloi and Morlock is a metaphor for the upper class and the working class. Wells mother severed the upper class at Uppark. Wells obviously felt resentment towards them for this because they kept the servants underground. They are described as being nauseatingly inhuman and pale. The relationship shared between the Eloi and Morlock is an unhappy one. The Eloi live off the Morlocks strength and ability to provide for them, where as the Morlocks live off the Eloi quite literally. They eat the Eloi. This reflects the British class system perfectly. The masters and mistresses require the services of the maids permanently, but if the butlers and housekeepers decide not to carry on working, then the masters of the house will not be able to survive independently. In this novel, Wells is warning us of the potential hazards of the class system. If upper and lower class people carry on as they are, then the human race will evolve into a race of dependant inbreeds, and race of subterranean dwelling savages. This could be prevented by equality; if everybody is equal then there is no danger of this happening. I believe Wells to be a pessimist.
